The Power of Wind

Extracted from http://www.meridianenergy.co.nz/aboutus/powerstations/teapiti/default.htm

"Te Apiti is Meridian Energy's first New Zealand wind farm. It is located on Saddle Road north of the Manawatu Gorge and situated within 1,150 ha of farmland owned by separate landowners, including Meridian Energy.

Te Apiti generates electricity for up to 45,000 average homes with no harmful greenhouse gas emissions and will do so for over 20 years.

By helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, Te Apiti is assisting New Zealand to meet its commitments under the Kyoto Protocol.

In recognition of the emission reductions from Te Apiti and an extension to a neighbouring wind farm, the Government allocated up to 1 million tonnes of emission reduction credits. The credits helped make Te Apiti and the extended wind farm economic.

There are also benefits to the communities surrounding wind farms including tourism and educational experiences. The visitor car parking area located underneath a turbine at Te Apiti attracts an average of 400 cars a week.

Construction of Te Apiti provided job opportunities for approximately 100 local contractors.

Wind farm development is compatible with farming, providing an additional income stream for farmers while using a small proportion of the land.

Te Apiti is the first wind farm in New Zealand to supply electricity directly into the National Grid.

Bergambar kenangan dgn Sis Nino..

Najmi, Najlaa' and Batrisyia
